When we went in the Ruta del sol, we visited the town
José Eloy Alfaro Delgado, 1842-1912
of Montecristi which is known for it's popular hats, the Panama hat, and also, the most important, we went in the town where Eloy Alfaro was borned.
Eloy Alfaro is the one who commanded the liberal revolution in Ecuador in 1895.

He generated a strong economic development and did everything to facilitate the industrialisation of his country, notably, with the construction of the first train line in Ecuador, between Guayaquil and Quito. But at this time, the country was divised between two politic styles; the liberalism, and the conservatism, which is more attach to the religious values. In 1912, because of his liberalism convictions, Eloy Alfaro was assassinated. This assassination has provoked indignation in the entire world because his death was very violent. Eloy Alfaro and his partisans has been transfered from Guayaquil to Quito, and has been left in the hands of a furious crowd. They have been lynching and then trailing through the city until El Ejido, where they had been burning.

We had the chance to go in the "Centro civico de la Ciudad Alfaro", which is in Montecristi. It shows the life of Eloy Alfaro, and its history. Very interesting. You can see below the pictures and videos i took.
